Types of dryer vent pipes
Dryer vent pipes, properly called vent pipes, come in a variety of materials.
Most dryer ducts are round and 4 inches in diameter. Some are flexible, and others are rigid. Because all types are sold for use with dryers, you would naturally assume that all are suitable for this application.

Below are the most common dryer duct materials used for dryer vent installation:
NOTE:
The best way to ensure ductwork is safe for your installation is to look for a product that is listed or certified by a national laboratory.
Aluminum spring tube.
Made of flexible aluminum foil, these are the most common type of dryer transition ducts — ducts that connect from the appliance to the main duct running outdoors. Air ducts can extend from 1 to 8 feet, which is usually sufficient for most installations. Double-check to make sure the type is approved for your dryer and allowed by local codes. Transition ducts are not concealed within walls or other building cavities and usually have a maximum allowable length of 10m. The air duct is held in place by steel straps. Metal tape can also be used, but clips make it easier to remove the tube for cleaning.
Semi-rigid metal tube.
Semi-rigid metal (usually aluminum) conduit is flexible and similar to foil conduit but is quite a bit stiffer. Like ductwork, semi-rigid is used only for transition ducts and must not be concealed in walls or floors. It is usually installed using clamps. Although semi-rigid metal ducts are typically stronger and have a smoother interior (captures less lint) than air ducts, it is more common to find ducts listed as semi-rigid.
Thin tube.
Thin Duct, sometimes called a periscope or known by the brand names Tite-Fit or Skinny Duct, is a rigid aluminum telescopic tube designed for transition ducting in tight spaces. It is a wide rectangle except for the two ends where it connects to the  dryer and vent. It allows you to push the dryer very close to the wall. This can be a great space saver as long as the dryer and vent are close together. Most slim ducts can be adjusted in length from about 27 inches to about 48 inches. It can also adapt to vertical, horizontal, and diagonal installations.
