Construction instructions for waterproof XPS foam
Note that XPS lining is not a drain-resistant material, so additional anti-degradation measures should be applied as necessary to protect the structure from ingress water.
The first thing we want to tell our customers, XPS foam products are insulation products not waterproof products, but you want to use XPS foam as insulation and at the same time as a waterproofing layer for the structure. , you can apply a waterproof coating or bitumen to the XPS foam surface.
Construction instructions for waterproof xps foam:
- Surface Preparation: Clean the XPS foam surface and make sure it is free of dust and dirt.
- Waterproof paint or bitumen: Waterproof paint or bitumen can be applied using a brush or nozzle (depending on product type). Be sure to evenly and sufficiently apply waterproofing or bitumen paint to the XPS foam surface.
- Use a waterproof liner (optional): You can also use a waterproof liner such as a waterproofing membrane or HDPE membrane to ensure better waterproofing of the system.
- Inspection and Repair: Once completed, double-check that the waterproofing or bitumen coating has been fully and evenly applied to the XPS foam surface. Correct any uncertainties.
- Finishing: Once the waterproofing or bitumen coating has dried and fully adhered, you can continue with other finishing works to the building structure.
As such, the application of an additional layer of waterproofing or bitumen coating on top of the XPS foam provides an integrated waterproofing and insulation system, which protects the structure from external water and vapor and increases its stability and sustainable construction.
